Andy's New Den

Image
"Don't you look handsome?" Mom gushed as Andrew entered the living room. "Figured I'd get out the whole uniform." Andrew said with a chuckle, straightening his already immaculate khaki shirt. "Gonna impress the other scouts?" He shrugged, but yes, that was generally his thought. Good first impression was what his old Scoutmaster always said. "Remember, it's mostly Cub Scouts." "I know. Still can't believe you called the den leader for me." He sighed and his mom chuckled. Even a Boy Scout was a teenager first and foremost. "Well, it's good that he knows to expect you." "I told him myself." Andrew murmured, but it was a minor thing. He had a den meeting to get to. * * * Andrew stood beside Den Leader Robbins, a practical mountain of a man who beamed with every sentence, his blindingly white teeth sticking out against his skin. "We're thrilled to have you here." He had said, his hand c

Making the Team

"Shit!" Billy sat up with a jolt, staring in disbelief at his clock by his bed. "No! No-no-no-no" was his mantra as he launched out of bed and his pajamas, threw on a t-shirt, grabbed a pair of socks that did not stink too bad, and bolted down the stairs. "Where are my shoes?" He muttered under his breath, throwing shoes left and right in the closet. Mom might be mad when she saw that, but he would apologize after. Right now, he had to- "What the?" He stared down at his legs in disbelief. No pants, no shorts, just his lucky pair of undies, sharks swimming to and fro across its surface. "Shit!" He ran back upstairs, hopping his way into a pair of shorts. He had maybe ten minutes to make it to the baseball field for tryouts. Could he make it? He'd have to bike harder than he ever had before. He could do it, right? "I gotta." He muttered, full of resolve as he nearly tripped and fell down the stairs. He gripped the bannister

Playing Princess

Image
"No way!" Jonah said, backing away slightly. He should have known it was a mistake to see what the girls were up to. Sure enough, Beth and Anna were wearing princess dresses and wanted him to wear one too. "You want to play, this is what we're playing." Beth replied. "But" "But nothing. Princesses or you go back to whatever grandma's doing." Anna said. "Only princesses allowed in this room." Beth held out her skirt as if Jonah could not see that she and her sister were each wearing princess dresses and tiaras. "But" Jonah began, but Anna gave him a look. "Grandma's got out those photo albums." He sighed. "Fine." "Fine what?" Beth asked. "I'll play princess with you." "Great! We're hunting a dragon and three-" "Beth! He's gotta get dressed before we can tell him our mission. Geez!" Anna grabbed a dress. It was too small for them, but for the yo

Ballet's My LIfe

After Jayden and Mike were caught red-handed, their moms decided it would be best to keep them apart. Best friends did not do things like shoplift! Mike begged and pleaded with Mom, but she remained firm. The worst part was, the ban on Jayden was not even his punishment. His punishment was far worse. "For the next two months, ballet is your life." Mom said. Mike thought it was strange, even after Mom explained that the best way to keep him out of trouble was to keep him busy. But ballet? Strange or not, Mike soon learned his new routine: every morning, he went to a private ballet lesson where he had to wear tights, slippers, and something called a leotard as he was drilled for hours. Then, Mom picked him up and he spent the drive home and the rest of the day watching ballet videos. Much to his dismay early on, it was literally the rest of the day. He had to sit on the couch in the living room, still in his leotard and tights, watching ballet video after ballet video, his head

Suprema Ballerina

Image
Robbie groaned as he heard the overly sweet tones of the opening theme to Suprema Ballerina, his sister Cassie’s absolute favorite show. He had the sneaking suspicion she never missed an episode solely because of how vocally he hated it. It was thirty minutes of a bunch of girls prancing around in tutus as Madame Magique talked to the audience about all sorts of dumb girly things. There was not even a plot! The boy stormed into the living room to demand that she turn it off. He did not know why he was so upset, but enough was enough! “Leave me alone, Robbie!” Cassie protested. “This show’s so dumb! It’s just a bunch of dumb girls prancing and twirling in sissy tutus!” He did an intentionally bad mocking impression as Cassie glared at him. “I think we’ve got one ballerina who needs a little more practice.” Madame Magique said on the screen. “Turn this thing off. I hate her voice.” “I’m talking to you, Robbie Allen.” Robbie spun around and saw Madame Magique looking directly at him. Sh

Princess Parade

She giggled excitedly. It was time for her favorite TV show. She turned it on just in time for the theme song. "Princess Parade! Princess Parade!" The TV sang as bright colors filled the screen. "Time for a princess roll call!" "Elsa!" "Anna!" Each princess announced herself with a cheery wave. "Cinderella!" "Ariel!" That meant the best one was next. "Uh, um, Max." She giggled seeing her brother's panicked face, looking as ridiculous as ever in a purple gown with enormous puffy sleeves. It was all thanks to her spellwork that he was trapped in Princess Parade. The rest of the show, she would watch for Max. He was never the main character of the episode, but he would be present in every group scene, dancing with the rest of them during the singalongs and, her favorite part after the theme song, giving the Princess Pledge in unison with the other princesses at the end of the episode. She still had not decided how
