Cody: The Dog Life

Image
At first, Cody wondered if he would be able to sleep outside, but in a way, it was like camping. The next morning, he emerged from his doghouse with a yawn. He made it over to his tree and peed before he wondered why he was crawling when he was alone in the backyard. He stood up, wobbling a bit. "There we go." He said. A squirrel in the tree chittered angrily at him and he yipped at it before realizing that was not the right way to prove he was still a boy. He cleared his throat. "Get out of here, squirrel!" He said, but something told him that more yips were all that came out of his mouth. "If I'm going to be a dog, can't I at least bark like one?" He wondered aloud. "If I'm gonna be a dog, why do I gotta be a woolly pink one?" He picked at one of the furry doughnuts around his wrist as he walked toward the house. Finding the back door locked, Cody sat down in one of the chairs on the patio, looking down at his pink feet, pink legs, ...

Cody: In the Doghouse

Cody waited for the effects of the dog shots to kick in as Mom herded him to the fluffy pink dog bed in the corner of the living room. He rolled his eyes as he saw a three panel mirror set up apparently so he could see himself from various angles. They won't buy me a new video game, but apparently they'll blow all the money they can on me now that I'm a poodle. He wasn't a poodle though. He knew he wasn't! "Let's get your school bows off." Can you take my dumb pink poofs off too? Cody thought. "You were such a good boy at the vet today." She praised, pulling off his green and gold bows. "These really do clash." She murmured. "You're the one who dyed me pink." "Hush. It doesn't hurt to be pink." She patted the poof atop his head. "Who's my pinky poodle pup? Cody is! Cody is!" He groaned, but he could hear his tail thwacking against the dog bed. "See? Deny it all you want, but your wag...

Cody: Doctor Jemisin

Image
"Mom!" Cody yelped. "I can't go to the doctor like this!" "What do you mean?" "Like this!" "You just went to the groomer yesterday and I promise" "Mom!" "No! No barking, Cody." She looked at him in the rearview mirror. "Sit still and I'll fix your bows when we get there. I promise Dr. Jemisin will think you're the prettiest poodle." "Who's Dr. Jemisin?" "Oh, the appointment was last minute, so I had to get whoever was available." "I like my usual doctor..." Cody mumbled. "Sorry, pup. We need to get to the bottom of your itching." "It's these stupid bows!" "You love your bows." Cody frowned. Hopefully this doctor would tell Mom she was crazy to insist he wear prissy bows all the time. Even if he was stuck as a pink poodle, he'd take what victories he could get. "We're here!" Mom said. "Great..." Sh...

Cody: School

Image
Once his friends dropped him off, the house seemed like it always did on a Sunday night. Sure, his dinner was once again kibble served from a dish on the floor, but after that, the plan was to watch a movie in the living room. “Cody! Down!” His dad said as soon as Cody took his normal place on the couch. “What? I always sit here.” Dad sat down on the couch with a groan. “Sit, Cody.” He said, pointing to his feet. “Well, this isn’t demeaning at all.” He muttered as he obeyed. His dad rewarded him with a good scritch. “Am I gonna have to wear bows to school?” He wondered out loud. “Did you get your homework done?” Mom asked. “Yeah, Friday night.” “Good boy.” He could not be sure if that was human or dog praise. Did it matter? Even sitting on the floor, things felt so normal. They watched TV, joking and chatting over the commercials. If it weren’t for the fact he could see his pink fur legs, Cody might have almost forgotten he was a poodle boy now. Things even felt normal when mom ...

Cody: The Park

Image
Once his relief had subsided, Cody sobered. How had he just done that? Wasn't he wearing undies under the unitard? There was only one way to find out. Cody reached down, taking advantage of being alone in the backyard to get to the bottom of what he suspected. His eyes widened as he dug down into his wooly fur between his thighs. "I'm... I... This whole time!?" He felt positively scandalized. He had gone out, gone to the groomers, all that… naked! Panicked, he tugged at his ears, yelping, though it was the yelp of a boy. Right, those were held in place by his hair. He grabbed his tail and was about to tug it when he noticed it twitch in his hand. He had to be losing his mind, right? It was fabric sewn to a unitard. It could not move on its own! Nervous, he headed inside. He still had human feet, hands, and a face. He was not a dog! Curious, he tried to find the edge of the sleeve, but all found was his hand and the fluffy doughnut of fur around his wrist. It had been...
